The plant was discovered by aquarists in Thailand close to the Burmese border. It's called 'Downoi' (little star) in Thailand and it's easy to see why (5-10cm in height and width). Pogostemon helferi is an unusual and unique aquatic plant with a compact habit, curly leaves and a surprisingly beautiful green color.
Under good light conditions and a nutrient-rich substrate, Pogostemon helferi forms numerous side shoots that develop small roots and the plant quickly forms an impressive carpet of foreground vegetation.
