Sagittaria subulata from South America is an ideal, undemanding foreground plant whose sprinters form a compact colony. Separate individual plants 2-4 cm. This plant can cause problems because under certain conditions it can suddenly grow to a height of 50 cm. But if it's then moved into the background, it may go low again. In aquariums, it sometimes sends long flower stalks toward the water's surface, while small white flowers spread out above the water's surface.
