The FiltoSmart range uses filter foams and filter media of different pore densities for optimum water quality and clarity. Each filter has its own replacement filter foam set. The FiltoSmart 100-300 models use ceramic filter media and the FiltoSmart 200-300 models also use carbon filter media. The time to change filter media varies depending on the size of the aquarium, the number of fish and plants, and the decline in filter performance. It is best to only replace the ceramic filter media when you fully restart the tank so as not to interfere with the beneficial bioburden.
